Nobel Chemistry 1923
Austrian chemist who transformed quantitative organic analysis by scaling it down to milligram samples.
Nobel Prize work
Invented the micro-analytical determination of carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen and halogens in organic compounds. By refining combustion techniques and using the Kuhlmann microbalance, his methods needed only a few milligrams of sample, transforming analysis of scarce natural substances.
